Siteground Hosting Guide

A simple step-by-step guide to creating your first WordPress website with SiteGround hosting.

SiteGround is one of my top 5 favorite website hosts – and I’ve worked with a LOT of hosts! It’s perfect for bloggers and creatives who are just starting out that want a reliable WordPress host at an affordable price. Their platform is very user friendly, fast, and most importantly, their support team is 10/10 (I mean, just look at these reviews!) Let’s dive in:

Step 1

Choose Your Plan

To get started, click the button below to go to SiteGround and choose your hosting plan.

On this pricing page, you’ll see a few different plans.

For most bloggers and small businesses just starting out, the StartUp plan will be perfect. You can always upgrade your plan down the road if needed as your site grows.

The GrowBig plan is best if you plan on having more than one website, and the exclusive features are great!

Once you’ve selected your plan, click the Get Plan button to continue.

Step 2

Choose Your Domain

One of the nice things about Siteground is that you can purchase your domain name here too!

Type in the domain name you want and click the Continue button.

(If you already purchased your domain elsewhere, select “Existing Domain” at the top and type in your domain name.)

Step 3

Account + Payment

Next, it’s time to fill out your account details and payment information.

At the bottom, under Purchase Information, please note that there are no discounts on the monthly plan, and sometimes there are different discounts depending if you choose 12 months or 24 months. You can select what you prefer using the dropdown.

There’s a few options under Extra Services, and I’m going to share my opinion on them with you:

  • I highly recommend getting the Domain Privacy . Without it, your address, phone number, and other personal info becomes publicly visible on WHOIS domain lookup sites.
  • The Site Scanner is a nice tool to have if you can swing it and want some of the extra features, but it’s really not that necessary IMO. Siteground already includes a strong firewall, daily backups, automatic security updates, bot protection, etc. You’re already very secure without this add-on.
  • Siteground already includes daily backups. You’ll need Premium Backup only if you want to be able to make on-demand backups.
  • I personally think you get more bang for your buck with email marketing from somewhere like Flodesk or Kit, but you can get Siteground’s email marketing for 1 month free if you want to try it out.

After making your selections, click the Pay Now button at the bottom to complete the order!

Step 4

Verify Your Domain

(After payment, you may be asked to verify your phone number. If you are, just follow the steps.)

You should now see the success message. Click Proceed to Client Area.

You should now be in your Siteground client area, and probably see this notice near the top of the page. As it states, it’s important to verify your domain name! Go to your email inbox (the same email you used to sign up) and find the email that says “verification required”. Follow the instructions in the email to verify the domain name.

Step 5

Set Up WordPress

Now that you’ve got your domain and hosting set up, it’s time to install WordPress! To install WordPress using the Website Setup Wizard, simply go to Websites, then click New Website.

In the Add New Website area you will be prompted to select the domain name that you want to use with your new WordPress installation. Select it and click Continue.

In the next step, you’ll select Start a New Website.

Next, select WordPress and set up your WordPress login. You should use a strong password here! Save this login somewhere safe because you’ll need it to log into your WordPress dashboard. Click continue.

You may seem some upsell products pop up, but you can decline them.

Click “Finish” and wait for your site to be created! Once you see this screen, you can click Log In Admin to log into your WordPress dashboard. You can always log directly into your WordPress dashboard by adding /wp-admin to the end of your url, like yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
